Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th June sees the British Hillclimb Championship (BHC), presented by Avon Tyres, and the class based Championship, the BHC Cup, presented by Classic Car Insurance Broker Footman James, visit the iconic Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb in Worcestershire for the first time in the 2023 season.

The leading drivers in the BHC are all entered. The current BHC top three of Wallace Menzies (Gould GR59-M Cosworth XD), Matt Ryder (Gould GR59- Judd) and Scott Moran (Gould GR59- Judd) are sure to be challenging at the top. They will be joined in battle by Alex Summers (DJ Firestorm – Cosworth XD) whose early season reliability woes look like they are behind him. He is sure to be in the fight too. Scott, Alex, and Wallace all took wins at Gurston Down last weekend. The pace at the top is therefore sure to be hot!

The outright record for the 1000 yard climb stands at 22.37 seconds to Sean Gould in the ‘works’ Gould GR59 Judd. This was set in August 2021 and represents an incredible average of over 90mph from a standing start. Sean shares the Gould with Matt Ryder and had his most competitive weekend in the last couple of years last weekend at Gurston Down. Who would bet against him joining the party at the sharp end too?!

The top contenders in the class based BHC Cup will also be competing at Shelsley, including current leader Duncan Barnes (Norma M20FC), second place Allan McDonald (Force SR4) and third place Dave Tatham (DJ Firehawk). Fourth placed Sarah Bosworth is sure to be flying in the Van Dieman RF85 Formula Ford, but watch out for Jonathan Langmead (Lotus Elise 135R) who arrives at Shelsley off the back of the perfect weekend at Gurston. Incredibly he broke his class record on every timed run and took maximum points to really kickstart his challenge for the Cup. Will he continue his record breaking form at Shelsley?

Competitive action is scheduled to start at 9am on both days and will continue for the majority of the day. Advance tickets can be purchased by clicking on the button below.

So, visit Shelsley Walsh over the weekend of 3rd & 4th June. The weather is set fair and it is sure the be an action packed weekend that all the family can enjoy.
