The 2026 season in the British Hill Climb Championship will see a number of important regulatory updates, aimed at enhancing competition, improving safety standards and aligning more closely with international hill climb practices.

Revised Calendar Confirmed

One of the headline changes for 2026 is a revised championship calendar. Most notably, the season finale will now take place at Prescott in September, bringing the championship to a close at one of the sport’s most iconic venues. This adjustment is expected to deliver a fitting climax to the season, with championship battles likely to go down to the wire on the historic Gloucestershire hill.

Tin Top Challenge Entry Update

The popular British Hill Climb Tin Top Challenge will continue to be free to enter for 2026. However, competitors must now confirm their intention to participate at the point of registration. In addition, all registered entrants will be required to display official Tin Top Challenge decals on their vehicles throughout the season. These changes are intended to improve visibility and organisation of the category while maintaining its accessibility.

Motorsport UK Regulatory Changes

Several updates introduced by Motorsport UK will also come into effect for the 2026 season:

  • Aerodynamics: Regulations governing aerodynamic modifications have been relaxed for Saloon and Sports Cars competing in Sport Libre. These changes allow for more extensive aerodynamic devices, bringing domestic regulations more closely in line with those seen in the FIA European Hill Climb Championship and Hot Lap Challenge Pro classes.

  • Balaclavas: The use of flame-resistant balaclavas will become mandatory for most competitors in 2026. The only exceptions are drivers of open bodywork Period Defined Vehicles and Road Cars, where their use remains strongly recommended but not compulsory. This move reflects an ongoing commitment to improving driver safety across all classes.

  • Tyre Wraps: The prohibition on single-use plastic tyre wrapping remains in place under NCR Chapter 14, Appendix 3, Article 1.3.
